GW2 LEGENDARY GUIDE
Plan your next legendary weapon or armor set in Guild Wars 2. Choose a project that fits your characters, compare progression routes, and separate your gold budget from the unlocks you need to earn.
Planning notes reviewed 13 October 2026. The linked videos are archived recordings; check the current in-game recipe before buying materials.
Which legendary should you work on first?
Start with the characters and equipment you actually use. Write down your main game mode, the weapon types in your favorite builds, and the armor weight those characters wear. Then decide whether you value a particular appearance, easier equipment changes, or a long-term collection goal most.
Choose one project before buying its precursor or materials. Compare the requirements against the expansions, maps and activities you can access. A project that matches your regular play is easier to plan than one chosen only from an old price estimate.
Legendary armor routes
Compare Obsidian, Envoy, PvP and WvW progression before choosing a route. The armor guide explains the differences and the requirements to check. Keep your preferred activities and the armor weight you need in mind when comparing the options.

Legendary weapon guides and Aurene variants
Aurene weapons belong to the End of Dragons legendary set. ArenaNet explains that their precursors and unbound weapons can be traded, while the crafting route combines a precursor with gifts in the Mystic Forge. Compare the exact weapon recipe with the purchase option before committing your gold.
The Elder Dragon variants are additional appearances for Aurene weapons. They are a separate collection goal after obtaining the underlying weapon, rather than a requirement to craft every appearance as a new legendary. See ArenaNet’s Aurene weapon overview.

Plan your gold and materials
- Choose the exact item. Open its current recipe and break each gift into its ingredients.
- Check what you already own. Review material storage and your bank before putting anything on a shopping list.
- Separate purchases from progress. Keep tradable materials in one list and account-bound unlocks or currencies in another.
- Plan the next step. Pick an activity you can complete now, then update the remaining quantities instead of treating the whole project as one purchase.
- Review the budget before buying. Recheck prices and avoid counting the same stored material toward two different projects.
If you sell items to fund your project, the Trading Post fee calculator estimates the proceeds after seller fees. Use the amount you receive, rather than the displayed sale price, when planning the next purchase. No fixed crafting cost or completion time is promised.

Common legendary equipment questions
Can different characters use the same legendary?
Once unlocked in the Legendary Armory, the item is available to eligible level-80 characters on your account. Each character must still be able to equip that item type. Equipment templates can use different attributes, upgrades and skins. ArenaNet explains how the Legendary Armory works.
Does one weapon unlock cover two identical equipped weapons?
No. ArenaNet’s example is dual-wielding Bolt: equipping that same legendary sword in two slots requires two unlocked copies. Account-wide access does not turn one unlocked weapon into unlimited copies within a single equipment setup.
Where do Aurene’s Elder Dragon skin collections begin?
ArenaNet’s Zhaitan variant guide starts after binding an Aurene weapon to the Legendary Armory. Leivas introduces the collection; check the in-game achievements for the specific variant you want. The official Zhaitan variant walkthrough explains that first collection.
